Fees & Rebates

Fees

A 50-minute session with a psychologist ranges from $220 to $260, with a surcharge applying for appointments outside regular business hours. Your out-of-pocket expenses may be reduced if you have access to Medicare rebates, private health insurance, or other funding options such as TAC, WorkCover, or NDIS.

A 50-minute session with a counsellor is typically $150, and some private health insurance ‘Extras’ cover may include rebates for counselling services, depending on your policy.

Medicare Rebates

Mental Health Care Plan: In Australia, seeing a psychologist can be made more affordable through Medicare rebates. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan, you may be eligible to claim $141 per session with a clinical psychologist or $96 per session with a registered psychologist in 2025. Once you reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold, you may be entitled to even higher rebates for the remainder of the calendar year.

To access these rebates, you’ll need a referral with a Mental Health Care Plan from your General Practitioner (GP), psychiatrist, or paediatrician. When booking your GP appointment, let the receptionist know that you require a referral for psychological support, as your doctor will need about 30 minutes to discuss your concerns and complete the necessary paperwork. Eligible individuals can access up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year under this plan. After the first 6 sessions, your referring doctor will conduct a review to determine whether the remaining 4 sessions can be approved.

Important: To receive Medicare rebates, your referral and Mental Health Care Plan must be in place before your first psychology appointment. Medicare will not issue a rebate if the referral is dated after your session. If you’re unsure how to begin, feel free to contact us and we’ll guide you through the steps.

Medicare Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDP): If you are struggling with an eating disorder, you may be eligible for support through the Medicare Eating Disorder Treatment Plan (EDP), which provides access to comprehensive, multidisciplinary care. Under this plan, individuals diagnosed with a severe eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge eating disorder may be entitled to up to 40 sessions with a psychologist and 20 sessions with a dietitian each calendar year. To access this plan, you’ll need to speak with your GP, who can assess your situation and provide a referral to appropriate mental health and allied health professionals. At our clinic, we have psychologists experienced in eating disorder treatment who can work collaboratively with you to support your recovery journey.

Private Health Insurances

If you have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) in Australia, you may be eligible to claim rebates for sessions with a psychologist or clinical psychologist, as mental health support is often included under OSHC policies. Since coverage and rebate amounts vary between providers, we recommend checking directly with your OSHC provider to confirm your entitlements.

For individuals holding Overseas Visitor Health Insurance—a requirement for some temporary resident visas—rebate eligibility and amounts will depend on your level of cover. It’s important to contact your provider to understand exactly what is included in your policy.

All of our clinical psychologists, registered psychologists, and some counsellors are recognised by major private health insurance providers such as Medibank Private, BUPA, AHM, HCF, NIB, and Australian Unity. Psychology and counselling services are usually included under ‘Extras’ cover, but rebate eligibility and limits vary based on your specific insurance product. Please refer to your policy documentation or contact your insurer for clarification on your rebate entitlements.
