Meet Morty — Counsellor
Morty is an ACA-registered counsellor with a passion for supporting individuals and couples through a wide range of challenges, including substance dependency recovery, addiction support, parent coaching, relationship difficulties, and general mental health concerns. Using a culturally sensitive, person-centred approach, Morty provides bilingual counselling services in both English and Mandarin to adolescents, young adults, and adults aged 18–60.
After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Monash University, Morty pursued a Master’s in Counselling at the University of Queensland. Known for his calm, steady presence and professional, thoughtful manner, Morty brings a sense of reliability and depth to his work. His diverse clinical experience enables him to support clients with compassion and flexibility, always attuned to their individual needs and goals.
Morty’s professional experience includes:
Full-time Counsellor at E.A.C.H (Eastern Access Community Health): Supporting a broad range of mental health needs at a well-established Australian community health service center.
Part-time Counsellor at Central South University of Forestry and Technology: Providing short- to medium-term counselling to university students facing anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicide risks, relationship and family issues, academic pressure, and career planning challenges.
Youth Worker at Life Without Barriers (Brisbane): Assisting adolescents with severe trauma backgrounds or psychological diagnoses, focusing on crisis intervention and daily living support.
Online Counsellor at FindSelf: Delivering therapy to self-funded young adult and middle-aged clients in China, addressing issues such as depression, body image anxiety, workplace stress, and social challenges faced by overseas students.
Addiction Recovery Counselling: Supporting individuals in substance use recovery at non-profit organizations, helping them reduce harm and build emotional resilience.
Morty’s broad clinical background includes working extensively with addiction recovery, family dynamics, cultural transitions, and personal identity development. Drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and the Gottman Method for couples, Morty tailors his therapeutic interventions to meet the unique needs of each client.
When supporting clients through substance dependency recovery, Morty integrates mindfulness-based interventions, narrative therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help manage withdrawal, dependency, and relapse prevention. In his work with couples, he offers practical tools to navigate communication barriers and foster deeper intimacy and understanding. Morty also provides a safe and affirming space for students and young professionals facing academic and cultural stressors, helping them explore identity, manage challenges, and build resilience. As a proud LGBTQIA+ ally, Morty is committed to ensuring that every client feels seen, heard, and respected.
