With over 25 years of clinical experience, Gustavo is passionate about supporting people from all walks of life to reach their potential and achieve meaningful goals. In addition to his registration with AHPRA, Gustavo is a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists NZCP and registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board. As a senior clinical psychologist, Gustavo brings warmth, depth, and professionalism to his work with individuals and couples navigating mental health challenges and life transitions.

Gustavo draws on a range of evidence-based therapeutic models, including psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). His integrative and collaborative approach has been shaped by years of practice in private clinics, public mental health services, and forensic settings across Australia, New Zealand, and Brazil.

Gustavo is deeply committed to a practice grounded in respect for each person’s uniqueness, cultural diversity, and rights. His professional values include transparency, collaboration, integrity, and clinical excellence.

Gustavo works with adults facing a range of mental health concerns, including:

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Relationship and interpersonal difficulties

  • Adjustment difficulties and life transitions

  • Neurodiversity, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Psychological impacts of physical illness, including traumatic brain injury (TBI) and chronic pain

In addition to individual therapy, Gustavo is highly experienced in couples therapy, drawing on psychodynamic frameworks to help couples deepen emotional connection and navigate relational challenges.

He has also lectured in Psychology for over a decade and published books and peer-reviewed research. He is also a full member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA), and the EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA).

In addition to Gustavo's part-time private practice, where he consults in-person and online both in English and Portuguese, he also works as a Senior Clinical Psychologist at Alfred Health mental health services for adults.

As a Board-approved supervisor, he is available for supervising psychologists, including provisional and registrars, as well as other health professionals.
