Dr Tina Liu is a psychologist with an extensive and diverse background across university education, research, and clinical practice. Before moving into private practice, Tina completed her PhD in cross-cultural psychological assessment, where she explored how cultural differences shape the way people understand and express psychological traits. She later taught in a tertiary foundation program for international students and worked as a research psychologist in a public mental health service, contributing to clinical research and evidence-based practice. Tina also supervises Psychology Honours students, supporting them through the research process and strengthening the next generation of evidence-informed practitioners. These experiences strengthened her commitment to culturally responsive and scientifically grounded care.

Tina has also worked in a multidisciplinary injury rehabilitation clinic, supporting clients recovering from workplace injuries (WorkSafe) and traffic accidents (TAC). In this setting she gained deep expertise in pain management, trauma-informed therapy, functional recovery and navigating complex compensation systems. This has given her a strong understanding of the challenges many clients face when physical health, psychological wellbeing and life stressors intersect.

With a strong foundation in psychological assessment, Tina is highly experienced in cognitive, diagnostic and functional assessments that guide clinical formulation, treatment planning and rehabilitation. She has supported clients through ADHD and ASD assessments, NDIS-related psychological assessments and comprehensive clinical reports. Her assessment work is known for being thorough, clear and sensitive to each client's context and strengths.

Tina’s broad experience across clinical, academic and community settings enriches her therapeutic approach. She supports individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic stress, adjustment difficulties and cross-cultural challenges. Her therapeutic style is flexible and evidence-based, drawing on EMDR, CBT, ACT and mindfulness-based approaches, and she tailors each intervention to meet the unique needs, goals and lived experience of every client.

"My approach is client-centred. I believe that everyone has the ability to recover and the strength to fulfil their potential. By creating a safe and supportive space, I help clients make sense of their past and present experiences, uncover the root causes of their challenges and explore different options for personal growth in order to move towards a more fulfilling future."

In addition to her PhD, Tina holds an endorsement in Community Psychology. This specialty focuses on how environments, relationships, social systems and cultural contexts influence mental health. It allows Tina to understand clients not only as individuals but also within their families, communities, workplaces and broader social worlds. This holistic perspective helps her provide care that is culturally attuned, system-aware and sensitive to the real-life factors that shape wellbeing.

As a mother, Tina also brings lived experience into her work. She understands the emotional and practical challenges that can arise during different stages of parenthood, which helps her connect deeply with parents navigating stress, identity shifts, and the mental load of caring for others.

Outside of direct therapy, Tina is passionate about bridging research and practice. Her academic background keeps her grounded in the latest psychological science, ensuring that clients receive care that is both compassionate and evidence-based.
