Cynthia Tsoi is a registered counsellor (Level 2 member of the Australian Counselling Association) and art therapist (ANZACATA), with extensive experience supporting children and young people. Based in Sydney, she holds a Master of Art Therapy from Western Sydney University and brings a strong background in cross-cultural counselling, art education, and therapeutic practice.

Cynthia uses visual expression, creative processes, and storytelling to help clients reconnect with their feelings, needs, and inner worlds. She has a particular passion for working with children, adolescents, and adults navigating emotional stress, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and family transitions. Her warm and grounded presence supports a safe and non-judgmental space for growth and healing.

Her therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and developmentally appropriate. Drawing from person-centred and expressive arts therapy perspectives, she collaborates closely with each client to shape the direction and rhythm of therapy. Through creative exploration and reflective dialogue, Cynthia supports individuals to better understand their emotional patterns, thought processes, and behavioural responses and to gradually develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and the world around them.

Cynthia has many years of experience in Hong Kong, working in schools and arts organisations, where she led expressive arts programs, supported students with additional needs, and designed emotionally nurturing creative environments. This background gives her a deep understanding of emotional expression and family dynamics in Chinese and East Asian cultural contexts.

In Australia, she has worked across primary schools and community settings, providing art therapy to children and families from diverse cultural and migrant backgrounds. She is particularly experienced in supporting culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations, LGBTQI+ clients, and individuals navigating life transitions or intergenerational challenges within multicultural family systems.

Cynthia works fluently in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Teochew, and incorporates culturally responsive methods when supporting individuals from migrant, bilingual, and bicultural backgrounds. Her work integrates elements of play-based therapy, narrative practices, and expressive modalities such as sandplay and dreamwork to support clients who may find verbal communication challenging or overwhelming.

Through her own ongoing creative practice, Cynthia also explores the complexities of being a woman, a migrant, and a healing professional—using art as a space for reflection and self-integration.

“Beneath a distant night sky, a young pilot quietly arrives at the edge of dreams, gazing at the soft glow in his hands—the star of his deepest wishes. This painting is my invitation to every person I work with.”

Whether child or adult, we each carry a vast inner universe — filled with dreams, memories, and unfinished adventures. The red, fire-like airplane in this image represents our inner courage. It soars through clouds and constellations, dives into the subconscious sea, and helps us rediscover the hidden parts of ourselves.

Cynthia believes that life is a journey of meaningful encounters — and through these encounters, we begin to heal. Along the way, we may stumble, face pain we cannot fully hold, or struggle to express what we feel. Yet she firmly believes that everyone holds the potential to grow, to guide themselves, and to heal. As a therapist, she walks alongside her clients as a supportive companion — like a gentle co-pilot — helping them navigate toward steadier and more liberated paths.
